It is with deep sorrow that we inform the demise of Deshamanya Priyani Elizabeth Soysa (23rd of November 1925 – 7th of April 2023). She was an Emeritus Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Colombo and a past president of The Nutrition Society of Sri Lanka.
She was widely known for her pioneering research in pediatric nutrition. She was involved in formulating the national policy on exclusive breastfeeding for newborns in Sri Lanka. She also served as a consultant to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations subcommittee on nutrition.
