A Message from the President
Dear Colleagues, Researchers, and Students,
Welcome to the Nutrition Society of Sri Lanka (NSSL). It is a privilege to serve as President of this dynamic professional body, committed to advancing nutritional literacy and improving public health across our nation.
Our Vision for a Healthier Sri Lanka
In a rapidly changing world, Sri Lanka continues to face complex nutrition challenges, including the triple burden of malnutrition, i.e. undernutrtion, overnutrition, and hidden hunger, and the rising prevalence of diet-related non-communicable diseases. At NSSL, we are dedicated to addressing these challenges by promoting evidence-based knowledge, dispelling misconceptions, and empowering individuals to make informed dietary and lifestyle choices.
Through this platform and our broader initiatives, we strive to enhance public awareness and guide communities toward healthier, more sustainable living.
Strengthening Professional Engagement and Collaboration
NSSL serves as a hub for nutrition professionals, researchers, and students, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning. Our annual scientific sessions, workshops, and training programs provide valuable opportunities for knowledge exchange, professional development, and interdisciplinary engagement.
We actively encourage partnerships and collaborative research that contribute to solving pressing national and global nutrition issues.
Reflecting on Progress and Looking Ahead

- Encouraging contributions to our Newsletter “Nutri Bulletin” and the Journal of Nutrition and Food Sciences
Embracing Innovation in the Era of Artificial Intelligence
As we move forward, the integration of emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, offers new opportunities to transform nutrition research and practice. From personalized nutrition to advanced data analysis, these tools can enhance our ability to design effective and targeted interventions.
At the same time, we remain committed to ensuring that such advancements are applied ethically, equitably, and with a strong focus on human well-being.
At the same time, we remain mindful of ethical considerations, ensuring that technological advancements are applied responsibly, equitably, and with a strong human-centered approach.
NSSL is committed to building capacity in this area by promoting the use of innovative tools, supporting emerging research methodologies, and preparing the next generation of nutrition professionals for a technology-driven future.
